Kinga ARAYA

Born in 1966 in Poland, but emigrated to Canada in 1990.

She studied art history at Lublin Catholic University. Once in Canada, she pursued her studies of art history and painting at the University of Ottawa, before moving on to study in the United States (York University, Texas Technical University in Lubbock). She is currently doing post-graduate work in visual art and art history at the University of Concordia in Montreal. She has been presenting her work in sculpture, video art and individual performances both at home and abroad, since 1998. She has for example been involved in exhibitions at the Center for Contemporary Art at Ujazdowski Castle in Warsaw (2000), and in festivals in Canada, Poland, Australia, Italy and ex-Yugoslavia. Among other themes, her work looks at issues such as nomadic identity (she has dual nationality) and the ambivalence of identity and of experience.
